Dental Tech is an innovative company leading the way in Dentures and Dental Care. Some people can struggle to make their mark in a family business, especially one that has been established by their parents. But Bevin Mahon has prospered, as has the company. Her parents, Brian and Mary, set up the Dental Tech Group in Terenure in 1993 and now Bevin is Managing Director.

Brian, a Senior Dental Technician with 25-years’ experience and Mary, a business graduate from Trinity College, saw a gap in the market for a denture clinician and dental laboratory and so began Dental Tech

After spending some time in New York after College and having gained experience working across several industries. Bevin’s parents asked if she’d “help out” in the business for 3 months to set up a computerised accounting software so she agreed to lend a hand. That was in 2001 and it was to be the start of a hugely productive working relationship. “I could see the huge potential for Dental Tech, not just jobs for us, but jobs and livelihoods for other people too, and that kept me involved. Soon we’d grown from 2 employees to 17 and by 2007 we’d outgrown our original premises”. “We wanted to remain in the locality as we believed that continuity was very important for our patients”. “We were fortunate enough to find a property just around the corner,” explains Bevin who led the transition.

Dental Tech Achievements

“One of our proudest achievements is that some of the employees who joined us on the move to the new premises in early 2007 are still part of our team today”. Currently employing 26 and with five Associate Clinicians, Bevin has plans to have a team of 36 people by next year.

Dental Tech is now known for its 2 divisions, as Dental Tech Group and Dental Tech Laboratory.  The Dental Tech Group is their clinics division and now has Denture clinics in 7 locations around Ireland.  The nursing home clinics look after the dental and denture needs of more than 3,000 residents. These people live in more than 100 nursing homes in Dublin and surrounding areas. The corporate dental clinics offer a Pop Up dental service to look after employee’s dental treatment in their place of work.

There are advanced plans underway to double the nursing home clinics by the end of next year. The corporate clinics are also growing rapidly. Meanwhile, the Dublin clinic welcomed its 10,000th patient and the company hopes to grow the number of dentists and dental practices that use the Dental Tech Laboratory. They currently work with 250 businesses mainly in Leinster and plans are underway for nationwide expansion and for export.

Expansion Plans

Now the company plans to expand their Denture clinics from 6 locations to a nationwide roll-out. Their clinics are currently in Dublin, Carlow, Cork, Galway, Kildare, Waterford and Wexford.

To say the business is growing is an understatement and Bevin knows the pace of change requires focus and determination. “It’s all down to surrounding yourself with great people.” Bevin Says. “We have a fantastic team who are genuinely passionate about our patients and quality workmanship. They are delivering the best time and time again. I have a great support network that allows me to focus on growing the business and creating more sustainable jobs”

Bevin attributes much of her success to working with her business coach Richard Cullen. She also credits being part of the Going for Growth female Entrepreneurs group.  Bevin is an ambassador for Going for Growth which is designed to support women who are serious about growing their business.

The Next Phase

The next phase for Bevin is to combine the innovative company growth with her own personal development. “I have also had a chance to work on my own development and personal growth. Another area I am so passionate about is our people and the team. After all it is the team and their passion that keeps the business going”.  So with that in mind, in 2017 Bevin qualified as an Engage and Grow Coach.   “I really want to share my experiences and knowledge of what has worked for us, with other businesses and business owners so that they can experience the same work/life balance that both myself and my team have become accustomed to.  And my employee engagement training has given me the channel to deliver this.”

It is a very exciting time for the innovative company and we really look forward to taking care of many more clients, with our very experienced professional team, into 2018 and beyond. We have great aspirations for the future and will continue to grow and develop as an entity.
